About The Quiet Reader

The Quiet Reader is an online literary magazine born in a town called Solitaire, in the state of Quarantine, in the country of 2020 — founded by Dutch writer Ramon Stoppelenburg.

What we publish:

We are looking for mesmerizing creative fiction and non-fiction, flash prose, travel writing, and literary translations — by new, emerging, and established writers alike. Writing that surprises. Writing that captivates. Writing that takes us somewhere else entirely, or quietly settles in beside us on the couch.

We warmly encourage submissions from writers of all identities, backgrounds, and corners of the world.

What we’re looking for:

We love writing that is adventurous and alive — the kind that carries the nervous electricity of a late-summer first day of school. Give us characters we can deeply inhabit. Take us to settings we can smell, taste, and hear. Any subject, genre, or style is welcome, though we lean toward international perspectives over Americana.

All submissions must be in English. Submit your work here.

“Wait — you’re in Cambodia?”

That’s right. The Quiet Reader began in Phnom Penh, then traveled alongside its founder to Tbilisi, Georgia; Casablanca, Morocco; and Lisbon, Portugal — where it lived for over two years — before returning home to Phnom Penh in 2025.
